If an individual is endangering him/herself or others because of mental illness or chemical dependence, the person may need involuntary commitment at a facility for treatment. Only a mental health professional can determine whether or not commitment is necessary. Call the probate court for specific procedures; DO NOT go to probate court until you have done so. |What to do if your family member is arrested and has a mental health/ medical concern:
1. Complete a mental health/medical form for your family member
2. Fax completed form to 864-467-2386 or drop off completed form in the Detention Center lobby
3. Contact detention center
· Call the Detention Center at 864.467.2330 and ask to leave a Phone-In-Concern for Medical/Psychological Services staff.
· Inform them that your family member suffers from a medical or mental illness.
· Describe the diagnosis and any other concerns you might have in a BRIEF message.
